SHORT-STAY VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR THIRD COUNTRY APPLICANTS

This is an informative document regarding the application for a short-stay Schengen visa, issued for 90-day period of stay in Schengen area within 180 days. These are generally used for tourism, business trips, short study programs, etc. The main destination of the trip must be Spain.

The following document is of non-exhaustive nature and it summarizes the requirements and documents that can be submitted. More information about stays in Spain for up to 90 days within a semester, you can find on the Regulation (EC) No. 562/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 March 2006. It is important to bear in mind that presenting these documents does not guarantee the granting of the visa – this consular section will decide on its concession upon examination of the submitted documents.

1 General Requirements:

a. A completely filled in and signed visa application form, in Spanish language.

b. One recent passport colour photograph.

c. Passport or travel document: it shall have been issued within the previous 10 years; its validity shall extend at least three months beyond the intended departure date from the territory of the Member States or, in case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States. However, if a proved case of emergency occurs, this obligation may be waived. It shall contain at least two blank pages to affix the visa sticker; original and photocopy.

d. A valid Bulgarian residence permit, valid for at least 30 days beyond the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States; original and photocopy.

e. Travel Medical Insurance, original and photocopy. The insurance shall be valid throughout the territory of the Member States and cover the entire period of the applicant's intended stay. The minimum coverage shall be €30.000.

f. When a minor child is travelling alone, a letter of authorization signed by the parents or a legal guardian shall be submitted.

g. Payment of the visa fee. The fees are not reimbursed if the visa is denied. The Schengen visa fee is 118 BGN, payable in cash when submitting the documents. The Schengen visa fee is 69 BGN for citizens of certain third countries that have signed visa facilitation agreements with the European Union. Currently those states are: Russian Federation, Ukraine, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Cabo Verde.

2 Purpose of the stay and means of subsistence

Supporting documents that prove the purpose of the intended stay and the financial sufficiency shall be provided. It is the applicant who must decide the kind of documents to be submitted, depending on their particular circumstances. This consular section will decide on the application based exclusively on the documents submitted.

The following sample list of supporting documents refers to the purpose of the stay and the means of subsistence:

a) Documents regarding the intended stay can be, among others:

-Booking of a roundtrip ticket, certifying the means of transportation.

-When travelling by car – or other vehicle-, a document, such as a sworn declaration before a notary public, that contains detailed information about the itinerary, the passengers and the vehicle.

b) Documents regarding the accommodation in Spain:

- Hotel Booking,

- Deeds of property, Rental Agreement or Residential Lease in Spain,

- Letter of invitation from the host, if staying with one, issued by the Police in Spain or the Office of Foreign Nationals, or a notary public,

-Document related to an organized trip by a tourist agency.

c) Documents regarding the means of subsistence, private or of the whole family (if that is certified), can be, among others:

- Certificate of a bank account,

- Recent bank account statements showing movements over a certain period (at least the last 3 months)

- Document certifying that another person, will assume responsibility for the charges of the trip, and proof of that persons‘ financial availability,

- Work contract or certificate of employment giving information about professional status,

- Certificate from the Bulgarian Registry Agency about a private business,

- Certificate for income other than salary: pension or scholarship,

- Proof of payment of an organized trip.

The applicant may submit any other document that they consider appropriate to support their application.

3 Additional information

All documents must be presented in their original version, along with a photocopy, and translated into Spanish by a certified translator,or in a multilingual version if the country issuing the document has signed specific conventions with Spain.

Only the documents presented by the applicant will be examined. Depending on individual circumstances additional documents or a personal interview with the applicant may be required.

Visa processing may take two weeks of time and they shall be lodged no more than three months before the start of the intended visit.

Application forms must be personally submitted at the following address: 27, Sheynovo Str., 1504 Sofía, within the opening hours of Consular section: Monday to Thursday 09:00 - 14:00, Friday 09:00 – 13:30.

Applicants are required to OBTAIN AN APPOINTMENT before submitting the application form.
